'Pasture mosquitoes' out in abundance

The Tulare Mosquito Abatement District is currently addressing an explosion of Ochlerotatus nigromaculis. This mosquito is commonly referred to as the “pasture mosquito” in California because of its prevalence in irrigated pastures. Originating south of Caldwell, this mosquito is a day biting mosquito that has moved into parts of Visalia. It is not a disease carrying mosquito.
